Rob’s Brief no. 1:
Cloverfield.
If you’re planning to see the movie soon or in the near future, whether captioned, subtitled or not, just bear in mind: the movie is not really all about the monster attacking New York City.
The film, as I’ve learned, is a radical departure from the usually popular monster-attack-city genre. You’ll find out why it is such a great concept and premise to begin with. Look at the characters’ eyes and their lives suddenly got upside-down so unexpectedly after a benign night of fun and party, forgetting bad relationships and jobs and what to do tomorrow.
J.J. Abrams has the right idea with this one.
