You sound as if you were on a whim.
Do you hope for q.p.q.?
02/09/2009 at 4:03 PM
Were you born yesterday??
Rush was never deaf until he’s lost his hearing, which is why he’s obviously wearing a CI in order to KEEP his job as a radio host. I doubt that he would bother joining the deaf community, let alone he would ever think about that. I personally disagree that he’s “part of us” just because he became late-deafened, and there’s absolutely no way he’d be able to compare his experiences to ours like apples to oranges.
Please do us a favor – take a reality check.
02/09/2009 at 4:44 PM
Reality? What’s this reality you speak of, Jen?
We’re in Obama’s world now.

It’s more accurate to say that Rush is hard of hearing. But in a sense, you’re right, he is deaf. However, he is not Deaf with the capital letter “D”.
02/09/2009 at 7:43 PM
Rush *IS* a part of the deaf and hard of hearing community. Not so the Deaf community but certainly the deaf and hh community. It’s not about joining but about being a part of. Now, cochlear implanted kids have a potential role model to look up to and maybe one of them can become a radio personality someday.
Neither Rob Underhill nor I (via Deaf Conservative Republicans) ever suggested that Rush is a part of the Deaf community with a capital “D.” I challenge anybody to say that I did so. I said “deaf community” and not “Deaf community.”

q.p.q. = quid pro quo.
02/09/2009 at 8:24 PM
I’m not trying to impose my political views on any of you here.
Getting lost into silly semantics is what makes the D/d/HH/hh (and whatever label breaking the ?/ key) community look bad.
Conservative agendas notwithstanding I believe Rob was just informing about this for the benefit of people not Rush-aware.

Well, Mike, there are many people who do not differentiate between D and d, like myself. I do not see two separate deaf world, and never will. So, to me there is only one deaf community. Confusing at best.
Unfortunately Rush is technically deaf and fortunately he does not consider himself as such. I don’t like the guy. Never have. Deaf or not.

Candy, Rush said several times on the radio over the years that he considered himself ss a deaf person from the very beginning when he lost it several years ago, even with a cochlear implant on. And yes, he’s hard of hearing, too.

I distinguished the differences when I included both the words “deaf” and “hard of hearing” as one whole community, inclusive, and not just “Deaf community” which is exclusive since you gotta “join” one (Jen’s word) in order to be one. For me to say “deaf and hard of hearing community” is inclusive of anyone with a hearing loss from mild to profound, regardless of background. There is not a “membership” requirement in order to become a part of that community.
Jen, so what if Rush had to get a cochlear implant to continue the job he loves and does it with expertise. Last year his contract was renewed for several more years worth $400 million dollars. It wasn’t a matter of him wanting to keep his job but it was Clear Channel who wanted desperately to keep Rush because they make tons of money off of him through radio advertisements during his broadcast hours.
I think Rush is great. Lots of humor. He makes a lot of sense in the areas of politics, environment and whatnot in what he says on the radio.
02/10/2009 at 1:51 AM
Keep in mind, Candy, a lot of liberals and MSM have been saying or writing very bad things about Rush over the years to the point of convincing people like you NOT to see/hear things from HIS very logical and common sensible perspective.
And the deaf/hoh community is NOT an exclusive club deciding on who is or isn’t deaf/hoh enough to join up.
02/10/2009 at 10:42 PM
Mike, Yea, I remember reading that article, yeah he had said he’s deaf, but does he still consider himself deaf?
Humor, eh?
I’m not a total Liberal, Rob. But, he has said things that was a big turn off. Have not checked him out in years. I’ll try again.
02/10/2009 at 11:50 PM
Yes, he considers himself deaf. He’s completely and totally deaf!
02/10/2009 at 11:55 PM
Still, his cochlear implant does wonders for him. What else? Clear Channel renewed his contract for another 8 years for $400 million dollars. He must be doing something right.
02/11/2009 at 12:00 AM
Candy, if you were me, I’ll try to compare Rush’s statements to the most vile, deranged, and hateful statements from the Left in the last 9 years. Even all that Rush had said in the past seem like nothing compared to that!
02/13/2009 at 2:05 PM
It’s sad and disturbing that RLM wished that Rush die on the operating table for a cochlear implant.

I think there are valid arguments on both side about this government plan. Will it raise the budget deficit? Probably. Will it help? That’s a good question. I think economies go through cycles and this might be one of them. I read a good article on recessions and their history on
